Engine, Transmission, and Performance 

Porsche caused quite a stir introducing the 718 Boxster and Cayman with turbocharged four-cylinder power, and the results are mixed. The turbo engines in the Cayman and Cayman S provide impressive performance, but the exhaust note and lack of top-end performance can leave something to be desired. Opt for the new Cayman GTS, though, and Porsche’s naturally aspirated flat-six. The entry-level Porsche 718 Cayman comes with a 300-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. The S variant offers a 350- horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter engine that quickly accelerates despite these cars not sounding premium due to their four-cylinder engines. 

The flat-six in the Porsche 718 Cayman has been a welcome change for those of us who can hear it. With 394 horsepower in the GTS 4.0 and 414 in the mighty GT4 RS, no matter which engine you choose, all Porsche Caymans come with a six-speed manual transmission. 

When it comes to this, you can get a quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The Cayman’s willful chassis and telepathic steering transcend perfection. 

Credit the car’s mid-engine layout and sticky summer tires that work together to provide the sports coupe with stunning balance stability on twisting two. 

Seats 

The sport seats are comfortable and ensure comfort while dynamic corners. They also have an electric backrest adjustment and a mechanical front/aft and height adjustment.  Seats are adjustable, and the driver-assist package allows you to adjust seat height, backrest height, cushion angles and cushion depth. It seats full of CFRP carbon fiber and offers excellent lateral cushioning at a lightweight. 

The seat cushions and backrest are fitted with larger, higher cushioning and offer more stability and lateral support. The fore-aft adjustment is manual; the height adjustment is electric. 2 Seating for a child does not include full-length or foldable seats. 

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG 

The EPA expects the baseline Porsche 718 Cayman to get up to 21 mph in the city and 27 on the highway. The more powerful S model is rated at 19 mpg city and 25 highway with automatic, and a manual-equipped GT4 RS is rated at 16 mpg city and 23 highway. We tested both cars on our 200.

The 718 Cayman’s cabin has a form-fitting feel, unlike other vehicles in its class. The gauges include both digital and analog displays but are not always easy to read.
